Crochet Pattern: Cool Coasters 3

By Erin Burger – 9 Comments

This pattern includes instructions for a square coaster pattern, which is unique because it’s done in rounds instead of rows. These coasters look great stacked up, tied with a ribbon and given out as gifts (great Christmas gift ideas for teachers!). This is a perfect pattern for a beginner or a child’s first crochet project.

These were really great!!! Thank you Rachael. I made them in burgundy and in hunter green for the holidays and I stitched a non-skid backing to them which is washable as well. You can find it in any Walmart or similar store. It is a mesh that comes in a roll and it’s used as drawer and shelve liners and you can do a lot of other things with it such as sew it to your crochet placemats so that they don’t move around on a slippery surface. These will make great “just because” gifts for friends and guests. Thank you again for sharing these and God Bless you for your wonderful site and great patterns.

@Maria, great idea for the non-skid shelf liner as backings for coasters and placemats!

Thanks for this pattern. I just finished a set of 5 using Lion Brand, Heartland, yarn in five gorgeous fall colors. I put a ruffle {can’t think of a better word for it] around the last row. Turned out great. Thanks for giving us this pattern.

I am not understanding this part 8 sc, 4 ch-3

That is the total stitch count for the round. You don’t have to do it again, it is just there so that you can check your work. When you are done the round you should have made 8 sc and 4 chain 3’s.
