Crochet Pattern: FourSquare Baby Blanket

By Amy Yarbrough – 6 Comments
I think I have already mentioned how fond I am of returning to the simple crochet basics of granny squares. This new baby blanket pattern is really just a twist on the old but I couldn’t help making it anyway. First you crochet four large granny squares and then put them together for one large, and fun, blanket. And always remember, there is nothing like a handmade baby blanket. Parents will treasure it for a while but a child will treasure it forever. FourSquare Baby Blanket

    Amy,
This is a little piece of heaven! So soft and soothing. I bet a lot of seniors could cuddle up with this pattern as a lapghan.

  2. Collette Griffith says:

Yes! Our Crochet Club uses variations of this pattern for most of the lap afghans we send to various Veteran’s hospitals, and they really appreciate them! They always request 35″ X 35″, so it is an excellent pattern for that!

    Hi Amy,

I am new to crocheting, my house mates is having a baby and I would really like to make her a baby rug. I am not sure what you mean by “(counts as 1 dc now and throughout)”.

I would also love to make one of those zig-zag coloured crochet rugs. Do you think this would be easier?

Thank you, I am very happy I found your site!

      Hello Verity,
Welcome to the exciting craft of crocheting then!

When the instructions say “(counts as 1 dc now and throughout)” it refers to the previous instructions to chain 3. The chain 3 represents a double crochet at this point in the pattern and at the beginning of each round.

As for the zig-zag rug, I can’t say that I am familiar with it. You can ask Rachel (the owner of Crochet Spot) about it and maybe she can help you out.

      Happy Crocheting,
      Amy
