Coasters make great beginners’ projects because of their simplicity and the near-instant gratification. If you’re looking for quick and easy (and useful and square), give this pattern a try, and feel free to pour yourself a cool drink afterward.

Skill Level:

Finished Size: 3 1/4″ (8.5 cm) square

Materials: Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 25 yards of each color) Crochet Hook H (5.00 mm)

Gauge:
Rounds 1 – 5 in coaster pattern measure 3 1/4″ (8.5 cm) square

Crochet Pattern: Square Coaster
Round 1: make adjustable ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, sl st in first sc: 6 sc
Round 2: ch, 2 hdc in each sc around, sl st in first hdc: 12 hdc
Round 3: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and 1 ch), skip first 2 hdc, 3 dc in next hdc, dc in next hdc, (ch 1, skip 1 hdc, 3 dc in next hdc, dc in next hdc) 2 times, ch 1, skip 1 hdc, 3 dc in next hdc, sl st in third ch of beginning ch-4: 20 sts
Round 4: ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, 3 sc in next dc, (sc in next 4 sts, 3 sc in next dc) 3 times, sc in last dc, sl st in first sc: 28 sc
Round 5: ch 2, dc in next 4 sc, 3 dc in next sc, (dc in next 6 sc, 3 dc in next sc) 3 times, dc in last 2 sc, sl st in first dc: 36 sc
Finish off.
