Free Crochet Pattern: Sparkleworks Card Bag

By Claire Golden – 1 Comment

I had a lovely deck of cards that needed a home, so I whipped up this matching card bag. My deck of cards was purple with gold edges, so I chose matching yarn colors to make them go well together. You can pick any color combination, use up scraps, and do as many stripes as you like. I can’t wait to see what you come up with. The bag closes with a drawstring, using the Stretch-Free Crochet Cord I developed a few months ago. The whole thing works up in just a few hours.

Skill Level:

Finished Size: approximately 3″ (7.5 cm) wide, 1.5″ (4 cm) deep, and 5.5″ (14 cm) tall

Medium Weight Yarn (approximately 40 yards of main color and 10 yards of contrasting color)
Crochet Hook D (3.25 mm)
crochet yarn size 4

12 sc = 2″
12 rows = 2″
Gauge Swatch: 2″w x 2″h (5 cm x 5 cm) ch 13.
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across: 12 sc
Row 2 – 12: ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across: 12 sc
Finish off.

Make a stretch-free cord with gold, approximately 12″ (30 cm) long. Weave through the open spaces of Round 20 and sew ends of the cord together.

What a perfect gift card holder! I love it! I’m going to buy my mom a Kohl’s gift card for Mother’s Day. I’ll use this pattern to make a holder for the gift card. Ciao!
