I have been harvesting strawberries like crazy in our garden. I simply can’t resist their tempting sweetness. If held to the sun their sugary flesh is almost metallic in color. This week I decided to take my love of strawberries one step further and create this crochet pattern for you to enjoy. There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Or, if you don’t want your strawberry to be three-dimensional, just make one half of the berry and use it as a cute applique on kitchen linens! The sky is the limit! |

Right off the bat, I must say, I am not talking about carry-on luggage here. I want to share some crochet ideas for the items we carry around with us all the time. What we carry around with us all day can be too heavy at times or simply not fashionable. How great would it be to create some things that will help us to carry the items we love and have a stylish look to them as well?
Here are a few ideas for carry-on crochet projects:

Sometimes you just want to feel like royalty. For those who are monarchs in their own minds, here’s something to help you look the part. This can be worn on the head as a hair accessory, used for a doll, turned into a present topper, or anything you could think of doing with such a small crown. |

There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! This purse pattern is crocheted using 2 layers. The outside layer is a lacy pattern that is made with join-as-you-go motifs and simple shell and v-stitch patterns. The inside layer is solid and crocheted with a contrasting color. The pattern uses multiple techniques to limit the amount of sewing required. Sewing the handle onto the bag is the only sewing required! The handle can be adjusted to be as long or short as desired.

Decreasing in filet crochet is incredibly simple. You either simply make the row shorter or start the row with slip stitches, and this works whether you’re decreasing on top of solid blocks or spaces.
To decrease at the beginning of the row, simply slip stitch in the number of stitches necessary. In a 4-dc mesh, you would be making a multiple of 3 + 1 sl sts. The last stitch you sl st in should be a dc (one of the outer stitches of a block). It will also be the st you make your turning chain in (counts as 1 dc)

7 slip stitches were used to decrease by 2 blocks.

As a kid did you ever make your own popsicles? I fondly remember those little plastic molds complete with a popcicle stick lid. It was so much fun to make my own treats. However, I was too impatient to wait for the popsicle to harden. When I went to pull the treat from the frosty mold the stick inevitably slid out and I was left to frantically eat the slushy fruit juice. This week’s project reminds me of a raspberry all fruit bar. It’s a perfect project for kids. Plus, you won’t have to worry about this treat melting! |

Crochet as a craft is inspiring to our entire lives, yet we can find inspiration to enhance our crochet experiences. One of those inspirational places is within the pages of fiction novels. There’s nothing like sitting down with a good book allowing yourself to get lost in the setting, the people, the places, and the situations the characters get themselves into throughout the book.
I have found that there are several authors out there who not only love to write good books, but apparently they love to crochet as well. Within the pages of their novels, they have added the element of crochet. Some authors who have used crochet as a major theme in their books will even include patterns within the story or in the back pages after the story has ended.

There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! This pattern is for a cute and fun pin cushion that has a wrist band. The pin cushion can be worn on your wrist while you work or sew so that your pins are easily accessible. The adjustable wrist band is secured with a button on the underside, but you can use snaps or Velcro as an alternative if desired. The center of the flower is used as the pin cushion, which is nice and thick to hold many pins.
