Crochet Pattern: Popcorn Ombre Child’s Headband

By Emilee Gettle – April 28th, 2012 2 Comments
I have seen some really cute hair accessories everywhere I turn. A lot of my favorite department stores’ accessories sections have a large area devoted to hair barrettes, bows, bobby pins and headbands. While I must admit I’ve added several new hair doodads to my collection I have taken to making my own as well. I embellished this child’s headband in a matter of ten minutes for my daughter (that includes hunting down the headband itself). I love yarn that graduates in color and texture. This project is a perfect one for using up your treasured yarn scraps.

This hat, made for infants 6-12 months old, has varying flat and front post stitches that give it a nice texture. The bottom edge naturally flares out to create a small brim. Combining thick texture with bulky yarn, this hat is ideal for keeping a baby’s head warm in the cold weather.

By Tameko Barnette – April 24th, 2012 7 Comments

Being a part of any group where everyone shares the same interest is a wonderful thing. No doubt. The conversations, the ideas, the advice, and the overall connection between all who attend is well worth the time and effort.

I have been a part of and have started several groups over the years. All of them were creative. You can start your own crochet group. All you need is a creative mind, some patience, and the following three tips. 🙂

Crochet Pattern: Lover’s Knot Wrap

By Rachel Choi – April 22nd, 2012 5 Comments

There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! This pattern is for a lacy and light weight wrap that drapes very nicely. Wear it as a shawl to keep yourself warm or to give yourself more coverage. The wrap can also be worn as a thick scarf. The pattern uses primarily knot stitches to create the body of the wrap. The edging has fun round shaped pieces that dangle. Feel free to adjust the size of the wrap to make it as large or small as you desire by using the instructions within the pattern.

Filet Crochet: Lacet and Long Mesh

By Candace – April 21st, 2012 1 Comment

In filet crochet, two commonly used meshes are the lacet or Fancy Mesh and the Long Mesh. Both of these meshes are longer than the basic mesh stitches. In a pattern that uses a 4-stitch mesh, these stitches are made over 7 stitches (2 outer stitches, 5 inner stitches–the equivalent of 2 meshes).

The lacet is made as follows: Ch 3, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 3, skip 2 sts, dc in next st
To start a row with a lacet: Ch 6, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 3, skip 2 sts, dc in next st

Two lacets over four normal-sized meshes

Crochet Pattern: Watermelon Applique

By Emilee Gettle – April 19th, 2012 2 Comments
One thing my garden can’t be without is several hills of watermelon. My family can’t resist it’s mouthwatering sweetness; it’s my daughter’s favorite summer treat! So, I created this watermelon applique to embelish her summer dresses. I’m also going to sew it on one of her white t-shirts to add a touch of pizzaz! Why pay lots of money for something similar at a boutique when you can make it yourself for little to nothing! This applique would also be great sewn onto picnic napkins to catch some of the juicy sweetness of summer’s favorite fruit.

What to Do With Those Tiny Crochet Hooks

By Tameko Barnette – April 18th, 2012 32 Comments

My favorite size crochet hook is “J”. However, most of my creations are made with a size H, I, or K. When I started attending a crochet group around the end of 2011, one of the members gave me two tiny crochet hooks.

I believe they are sizes B and C. Very small. They are so small I can’t even see the hook without my reading glasses.

My mind scrambled to find uses for these tiny crochet hooks because quite frankly, I couldn’t then and still can’t imagine now actually using them for a pattern. Now, I’m sure you extremely advanced crocheters from way back can really work with any crochet hook that comes your way. But I have to admit these tiny crochet hooks got me stumped. So I figured out another use for them.

Crochet Pattern: Butterfly Net Wristers

By Candace – April 17th, 2012 7 Comments
These wristers are open and fun, much like the wings of a butterfly. These make a great spring or summer project especially when made with cooler fibers in bright, vibrant colors.

The combination of mesh and butterfly stitch make these a quick project for those who want instant gratification.

By Rachel Choi – April 15th, 2012 4 Comments
There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! Crochet these cute and fun flip flop coasters to use with martini, wine, champagne, or any other footed glasses. The bottom of the glass fits snugly into the flip flop straps, attaching the coaster to the bottom of the glass. These coasters can also be used as glass markers if you crochet a set in a variety of colors. Feel free to customize the flip flops with small appliques or embroidery. Crochet a set of these coasters for a party, or just to have a set around the house. The flip flop coasters are great for spring and summer time fun!
