To those of us who live in the United States of America, the three colors that make up our flag is the essence of patriotism. When Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag, little did she know the effect it would have on her growing country. And yet it’s hard not to take it all for granted. During these summer patriotic holidays let’s try to keep in mind how blessed we are to be Americans! |

Here’s another motif you can use for any project you can dream up. It works great for accessories like scarves and headbands whether used alone or with other shapes. With heavier yarn and larger hook, it can also be used as part of a blanket. |

That sweater! You love it and you have to make one! When you feel motivation like this, you know that you’ll practice project monogamy and work on it and only it until you can wear it proudly. But since this is a significant investment of time and attention, you want to make SURE the final product is one that you’ll absolutely love. You need to KNOW that will be well worth the time, effort, and I’ll say it, MONEY that you’re about to put in.
There is nothing worse than the following scenario: You’ve spent a lot of time thinking, comparing, asking for advice, and dreaming about your perfect yarn. You’ve excitedly selected it right down to the color that will perfectly compliment your wardrobe. You anticipate the package arriving at your doorstep, and eagerly tear into it to find that the COLOR of this yarn, this perfect, perfect yarn is just… not what you thought. Crestfallen.
Actually, this did happen to a friend of mine, and this exactly why a color card can save your life!

In the 1947 movie, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, there are two granny style afghans belonging to Mrs. Muir that are very noticeable. One is a granny motif afghan while the other looks like this one here. I loved the second one so much I decided to redesign it for Crochet Spot. This afghan is a perfect square that you can adjust to make as large or small as you desire. There’s no turning involved with this pattern so the right side of the stitches will all appear on one side. Have fun mixing and matching colors to make this granny square inspired afghan your own! |

Have a nice, cool drink on this, and don’t worry about unsightly rings. These coasters are quick and easy to work up, and the spoked pattern is a good introduction to working around posts and increasing in the round. Crochet a bunch of these in different colors to create a set! |

Here it is: One huge THANK YOU to everyone who read and commented on my last post. It’s so much fun connecting with you all this way! Let’s get right to it, shall we? It’s time for more unsolicited crochet advice.
Crochet Problem: You Want to Crochet a Million Things. We are so fortunate to be around during this fabulous time for crochet. Never before have there been so many diverse and inspiring patterns all so accessible to us at a moment’s notice. How many times have you gotten lost in Pinterest for hours just taking in all of the beautiful options for crochet projects?
And what about Ravelry? Do you have over 200 projects in your queue? And you already have a billion favorites, right? Don’t get me started on Rachel’s patterns. With so many awesome patterns right here on the blog and also in the Crochet Spot store, we could be busy for years just crocheting through this blog alone!

Why is everything so darn cute?
We all should be very proud to be a part of the crochet community at this very special time in crochet history. It is perfectly natural that we’d want to enjoy every pattern and yarn there is to offer. Yet with this wonderful abundance comes a tough truth: You can’t crochet it all. I know. It’s a bummer. The upswing? You can crochet a lot and you can crochet each day! How do we select our projects?

Whether wearing them with a dress or over a shirt, adding belts to accent your outfit has become the thing to do. With the plethora of crochet stitches at our fingertips, what better way to have fun with them than with something you can wear. Make them in your choice of tones and these three belts will compliment your style in every season. Here’s a tip: take this chance to try out some new ways to tie belts! |

It’s hard to ignore the outburst of beauty that comes with spring. One of my favorite flowers are gladiolus and every year I watch my flower bed closely to catch the first glimpse of their glory coming out of the ground. Flowers are the best way to celebrate the arrival of spring. Being spring-inspired, I found some of my lighter colored yarn and started with the intentions of creating something dainty, just like new blossoms. If you’d like a stiffer earring, try starching the flowers before attaching them to the earrings. |

If you are looking for a challenging yet fun project for spring or summer, look no further than this scarf. With its open and closed pattern and stair step edges on the long sides, it’s sure to add interest to any outfit. While its shaping looks simple, the stitches used are not, so this pattern is recommended for adventurous intermediate to advanced crocheters who are interested in linked stitches and right-angle increases. |
