I have four children and they are obsessed with favorites. My six year old wants to know everyone’s favorite color, my eight year old loves hearing about people’s favorite foods and my three year old is constantly asking us and anyone who will listen, “Who is your best Star Wars?” Which translates into, “Who is your favorite Star Wars character?”

But my soon to be eleven year old wants to be a writer, so she’s consistently asking me about what I’ve written week by week as a Freelance Writer and Editor and what my favorites are. She’s a novice at crocheting but has a real interest so recently has been perusing the Crochet Spot website trying to find and pick our favorite patterns. And best of all, they look great on everyone! This quick kerchief is made in one piece with just 17 rows of a modified mesh pattern. It’s easy to adjust the size, simply crochet less or more rows to decrease or increase the size. When you’re done, embellish it with your favorite flowers or bows or whatever you like. Puppies, crochet and love seem to be directly connected, according to my almost 14 year old daughter. Want to know why?

We are getting puppies, possibly lots of puppies, to foster that is. I use to – many moons ago – foster puppies for the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). I am not sure if you have ever had the “pleasure” of tiny puppies but they are messy – really messy. The true horror of very young, almost immobile puppies that have no mommy to run around after them to clean up cannot actually be described. But they are cute, even thought at some point they will develop razors where there teeth should be.

As a person that crochets, I have plenty of silly little bits and parts of skeins / balls left over. I am assuming you do too. There are only a certain amount of tiny projects you can do to use them up. So let’s investigate the “magic ball”. A magic ball is like a leftover dinner, if you like leftovers it can be as good, if not better than the first helping. For those of you that have no idea what I’m going on about, a magic ball is the consolidation of all your leftovers.

One of my favorite things about crocheting is making fun and colorful flowers. This pattern is for a larger sized flower that can be made in two colors, like in the pattern, or with an abundance of different variations. This flower can be embellished, like in the photo, with a button or even a little mini pom-pom and would be great for a fun hat embellishment or a homemade corsage you can keep forever.

Skill Level:

Finished Size: flower is 4″ (10 cm) in diameter

Materials: Small amounts of Worsted Weight yarn in Color A and Color B Crochet Hook G (4.00 mm)

If you are tired of cutting yarn for fringe and love to make chains, this fringe is for you! Use it for a spring scarf or an afghan or even crocheted jewelry. The only thing you need to know is how to chain. Basically, this fringe is just loops of chains attached to the base of your work continuously.
