Crochet Pattern: Abigail Hat and Scarf Set

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns on December 13th, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – Be the first to comment
Wrap up this winter with a home-made hat and scarf! Being a big fan of the slouchy look in hats it’s no wonder that the majority of them in my crocheted collection are a form of slouchy beret. And now here is one for you! Pair it with its matching scarf and you’ll love the look.
When I first saw a design similar to this scarf on a film, I decided I wanted to mimic it. I played around with a few stitches until I found this one. By pulling the initial yarn over of a double crochet up higher than normal, you achieve a long and lacy stitch that no one will guess is a basic stitch. This stitch pattern mimics broomstick lace and hairpin lace, but is so much simpler to crochet!

How to Crochet: Long Double Crochet (ldc)

Posted in Tutorials and Help on December 10th, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – 9 Comments

There are certain things I do without intention and one of them is recognizing crochet or finding crochet inspiration in the movies. And I know I am not the only one. (See this post by Cami for example). What I noticed lately inspired me to design my new pattern, the Abigail Hat and Scarf. The pattern uses a very basic stitch to which I’ve added a “twist”. If you want to know how to make it follow along and I’ll show you.

Crochet Pattern: Trellis Christmas Ornament

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on December 6th, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – 2 Comments
After seeing a pattern for crocheting ornament covers in a crochet magazine I thought they would make a great holiday activity for my family to do together. But even though it’s an easy pattern, there are still elements a newbie would struggle with. So I decided to make my own design using the very basics of crochet. And here it is! Add a little glitter for some sparkle and don’t forget the ribbon! Trellis Christmas Ornament

Crochet Pattern: Acorn Appliqué

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on November 19th, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – 8 Comments
Signs of the season are not hard to miss. Squirrels scurry to search for acorns among the leaves while new birds arrive at our feeders to stay for winter. Inspiration is all around us; just take a look and see what inspires you. This week I introduce to you another fall appliqué to add to your collection. Appliqué’s are fun and easy ways to accessorize. And since they use so little yarn, they’re great projects for using the scraps of yarn we tend to accumulate. Acorn Applique

Crochet Pattern: Scarecrow Hat (5 Sizes)

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns on November 17th, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – Be the first to comment
Last year my sister wanted some pictures with Susie, our scarecrow. This year she can look the part with a hat just like Susie’s. Using a worsted weight yarn, that most people usually have on hand, this hat is simple and quick to make. The brim is loose and floppy, perfect for the happy-go-lucky look, and you can pick from 5 different sizes to ensure a good fit. Add a touch of contrasting yarn for the band and complete the picture with a piece of straw. You can’t go wrong! crochet scarecrow hat

Crochet Pattern: Leafy Doily

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns on November 10th, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – 1 Comment
Long before crocheting became popular in the 60’s, the art was used for making many things. One item that has always been crocheted is doilies. Doilies have been a part of our culture in a small way for what seems like centuries. This doily pattern has a modern spin with its vibrant colors. The doily is crocheted in the round from the center out and the colorful leaves are joined in as you go. Crochet this doily or a set of them to add to your fall decor. crochet leafy doily

Crochet Pattern: Pumpkin Appliqué

What is it that excites you the most about autumn? The prospect of upcoming celebrations? The decorations? Or is it the changing temperatures? For most of us, it is probably all of it together. We set our scarecrows up in our yards, surrounded by hay and pumpkins, we enjoy turkey and pumpkin pie, and consider how grateful we are for the time God has given us with family and friends. Crochet this little appliqué as an example of your love for the season! P1140983

Crochet Pattern: Autumn Leaf Earrings

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 23rd, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – 9 Comments
If you’ve paid any attention to the earrings I have designed so far on Crochet Spot, such as my Spring Flower Earrings and Giselle Earrings, you will notice that I am a big fan of the long, dangle-y type. One reason is because I wear my hair down most of the time and they are the only ones that show. So I am adding to my “collection” a set of fall earrings. These earrings are loose and breezy, perfect for the season. Choose any colors you please and have fun! Autumn Leaf Earrings

Crochet Pattern: Trellis Wrap

In the crisp morning air there is nothing more pleasant than being able to wrap a handmade shawl or wrap around your shoulders. This wrap has beautiful drape and, contrary to many beliefs due to the “holes”, is very warming. I chose Bernat Bamboo yarn because I wanted something delicate and comfortable. I’m happy to say that it turned out extremely well. Try it out and tell me what you think. You can wear it for both warmth and style. Either way, be sure and have fun crocheting! Trellis Wrap

Crochet Pattern: Indian Bracelet

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on October 10th, 2013 by Amy Yarbrough – 15 Comments
I have always been proud of my Cherokee heritage. Of course, I’m equally proud of the Irish and Scottish blood in me as well. But as autumn rolls around we tend to remember the vital role the Native Americans had in the settling of the New World. I love this time of year and I look forward to hearing the stories once again! This bracelet is an example of my love for the season and the events surrounding it. I hope you enjoy crocheting it! Indian Bracelet
