How to Crochet: Angel Wings Necklace Part 1

By Claire Ortega-Reyes – 9 Comments
Here’s a photo tutorial on the Angel Wings Necklace pattern, as requested by a Crochet Spot reader.

The first part of the tutorial shows how to crochet the first two rows of the pattern. Watch out for the second part, for detailed instructions on how to crochet the third, and final, row. As with all the crochet tutorials here, mousing over the images shows images for the left-handed tutorial.

What are you waiting for? Grab that G (4.00 mm) crochet hook, and some pretty medium-weight yarn that’s been lying around.

Need help understanding the abbreviations and symbols? Check out the crochet abbreviation chart!

Ch 131, taking care to not twist the chain, sl st into first ch

Row 1: Ch 1, sc into back ridge of next 31 ch, turn: 31 sc

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in next sc,

sk 2 sc, 8 dc in next sc, (this is the first fan)

sk 2 sc, sc in next sc,

sk 2 sc, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc (shell made),

sk 2 sc, sc in next sc,

sk 2 sc, 12 dc in next sc, (this is the second fan)

sk 2 sc, sc in next sc,

sk 2 sc, shell in next sc, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc,

sk 2 sc, 8 dc in next sc, (third fan) sk 2 sc, sc in next sc, turn: 6 sc, 2 shells, 3 fans

I hope that was helpful! Watch out for the second part of this tutorial, where we work on row 3 and finish off the necklace. I’ll update the post with the link when it is published. If you need anything, just leave a comment below.

This is so beautiful! I can’t wait for the rest of the pattern so that I can get started on one of these. I’m thinking I could also just make the angel wings part and rig up some way to tie them onto one of my daughter’s dolls! She would LOVE that!

I’m going to try and make an earring from this particular pattern.. want links to picture(s) later?

The last set of instructions makes no sense to me, “turn: 6 sc, 2 shells, 3 fans”, Does this refer to what we’ve already done, or what we have to do once turning?
The fans in this tutorial are all different (8dc then 12dc then 8dc again) so which one so we use if we make 3 fans? . A full photo of the completed part 1 would be really helpful to know if we’re on track.

Hi Shola, the “6 sc, 2 shells, 3 fans” that’s after the colon is the stitch count for the row. It tells you what you should have made on the row so that you can double check your work. You don’t have to make another “6 sc, 2 shells, 3 fans”.

Thank you very much for this beautiful and easy pattern! I thought it would look great in thread so I took the liberty of adapting your pattern accordingly and loved the results, I hope you like the pics. If you’d like to have a copy of my adaptation just let me know. 😀

I sc 31 times across and I do all of row 2 and when I get to the end of it I don’t have enough sc’s to continue after 8dc, and I don’t get where to put the stitches after you turn I have done and undone this necklace countless times!
