Airport Crochet

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – July 29th, 2014 17 Comments

Travel has been on my mind lately as it’s the summer up here in the Northern hemisphere and I have personally had occasion to board a flight or two recently. For me it is second nature to take crochet virtually everywhere I go, but I think it’s worth it to outline a few basic points about airport crochet. Crochet is an ideal craft to take with you while traveling by air. Nowadays it is pretty easy to pack and get the basic tools through security. While traveling in the airport and on the plane, crochet provides a welcome sense of relaxation while productively passing the time.

The Most Elegant, Essential Crochet Project Ever

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – July 22nd, 2014 16 Comments

This project is a classic. Loved by beginners and seasoned crocheters alike, this swath of crocheted fabric is used over and over again. It is loved and appreciated. It offers comfort and cleanliness. It gives us a chance to test our skills. It helps our gauge swatches find life in various rooms in the home. The most elegant, essential crochet project ever? It’s the crocheted washcloth.

I don’t know if you’ve ever thought of a washcloth this way, but bear with me for a moment, because I think I have a pretty good case.

How to Crochet: Starting a Circle

By Candace – July 19th, 2014 4 Comments

When making a flat circle, my preferred method is the adjustable ring–an alternative to the traditional method often given in crochet patterns. However, some people may wish to use an alternative to the ring, and when the ring is the method given in the pattern, it’s good to know what the traditional method is.

This way of starting a project in the round is simple, but it can take some trial and error to get the center you want. Working your chains too tightly or too loosely can lead to ripping your first round back several times at the start of a project, so it may take some practice to get it right each time.

Crochet Pattern: Keychain Card Holder

By Candace – July 13th, 2014 3 Comments
I have a bunch of mini cards on my keyrings from grocery stores, drugstores, the library–you name it. Over time, some of them have gotten a lot of wear, so to protect them and keep my newer ones from meeting the same fate, I made a little sleeve to keep them in. Not only does it protect cards, but it also keeps keyrings looking a bit neater. crochet_keychain_card_holder
