Crochet Pattern: Child’s Tunisian Cuff

By Candace – August 16th, 2014 Be the first to comment
This child’s accessory is simple enough for a child to complete and narrow enough for a regular crochet hook. It is worked widthwise with just a little seaming. If made with cool, absorbent yarn, it also makes a good sweatband. crochet_child_tunisian_band

Crochet Pattern: Sailboat Appliqué

By Amy Yarbrough – August 14th, 2014 4 Comments
Unlike most girls, I have always loved a nautical theme. I decided early on in my life that I would learn as much about the world of water and man’s history on it as I could. And though some children may grow out of this interest, almost all love the adventure the sea promises. Whether you are designing a nursery or a simple blanket or piece of clothing, choose between this and some of Crochet Spot’s other nautical and marine inspired appliqués as well: the Anchor Appliqué, the Fish Appliqué. and the Something’s Fishy Appliqué! Yes, This IS Your Grandmother’s Crochet! (Because Grannies are COOL!)

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – August 12th, 2014 8 Comments

Yeah, I said it! I love granny squares and with a granny square there is almost nothing you can not do! People sometimes say, ‘This isn’t your grandmother’s crochet.’ I know what they mean by that. They are trying to get at the idea that crochet is fresh, hip, and fun. But who said that grannies aren’t all of those things? I think it depends upon the person! Let’s talk about grannies!

My grandmother was a really interesting and cool person for all of her years. She was someone who, while keeping her foundation firmly implanted, kept moving forward, learning, growing, and changing with the times. I learned perseverance from her and she served as a strong role model. Through her example I know that we never have to stop changing, and never have to stop growing.

This chunky bangle takes advantage of Tunisian crochet’s natural tendency to curl, making it easy and great for beginners. Playing with gauge and texture with these can create fun looks, especially when mixing and matching bracelets. Break out your yarns from plain to novelty to create a fun and funky stack.

Crocheting covers for your phone is an excellent way to protect it while personalizing it. For those who want to add a bit of avian flair to a project, try this bird silhouette applique. It is easy to make and in no time you can have a nice-sized flock to adorn bags, blankets, sweaters, hats, and anything else you would like to decorate. The bird is made all in one piece, so the only sewing you have to do is when attaching the applique to a project. crochet_bird_applique

How to Crochet: Single Crochet With Bead in Front

By Candace – August 2nd, 2014 8 Comments

Adding beads to crochet produces beautiful pieces, but the usual way of adding beads has its limitations. With beads only showing up on one side of the stitch, you can only add beads in every other row of a flat piece. When this technique is combined with the usual one, you can add beads to every row for a more densely beaded project. The key here is to single crochet behind the bead.

Crochet Pattern: A Rose for a Ring

By Amy Yarbrough – July 31st, 2014 2 Comments
One of the most enjoyable things to crochet is jewelry! Rings, earrings, necklace pendants, and brooches, all with the artistic flare yarn or thread naturally gives. Making your own jewelry says a lot and lends something noticeable to your appearance. To make this rose you begin with a strip of crocheted fabric and wind it around itself to resemble a rose. Then you simply sew it together from the bottom. Visit this page to see an example: How to Roll Up a Crocheted Rose. You can use this tiny rose on anything. Here’s a tip: for a tiny rose, try size 10 crochet thread! Rose Ring
