The Garden State Sheep Breeders Sheep and Fiber Festival 2015

One thing I love about being a fiber artist is the variety of events that are held year round. I have been fortunate enough to go to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival twice, but since then, I had gone a few years between shows. Luckily, I found out that there’s a sheep and fiber festival held not far away from home, and I made plans to go. I even took along my nieces who, though they have had trouble learning, are at least interested in fiber arts.

Who wouldn't be interested in something so pretty?

We got to the festival bright and early, and our first stop was to see a vendor that was holding a few items for me. A friendly phone call can make festival days easier if you’re looking for anything specific. Since we were there early, we didn’t have to compete with crowds, and it was easy to get around, even if I had trouble making up my mind about what else I was going to buy.

I eventually settled on this.

We of course looked at and touched a lot of the yarn, fiber, and tools on display, and I bought some lovely fiber, but I think the highlight for my nieces and a lot of other kids was the animals. Sheep, alpacas, goats, rabbits, dogs–the girls enjoyed them all. We even got to watch a sheep get shorn.

As for me? My highlight was the payoff when I got home with my new spinning wheel accessories. I now have a new skein of yarn waiting to be made into something pretty–maybe I’ll crochet it!

It came out great for a first attempt at wheel spinning.
