Giant Doily Rug
By Rachel – 20 CommentsYou may have seen this awesome rug, since it was made about a year ago, but I just came across it today and had to share! This lady (not sure what her name is) hand crocheted (no hook, just hands) the giant doily rug with what looks like rope.

Who ever said that doilies had to be cute little dainty things for dinning room tables. Now I dare someone to take a doily pattern and make a giant rug with it! Find more about the designer here, (thanks Erin Lea for the link).

Hand crochet? That’s nuts! It’s beautiful!!
After seeing this I had to go look it up to get more info! I found the maker here: http://www.ladiesandgentlemenstudio.com/originals/megadoily/
It almost makes me want to go buy a bunch of cotton rope and a book on doilies…
That is awesome! I hope she eventually got up and sat in a chair, that would hurt my knees!
hi..thanks for the nice words. my name is Jean….the lady of Ladies and Gentlemen. Now the mystery is solved.
Cheers!
Woah! Thats amazing
No hook? Just, wowwwww
“W0W”!!!!!!
My grandmother used to make throw rugs out of Wonder Bread wrappers, which is nifty cool, but this is so beautiful and inspired…applause, applause.
way to cool. makes me want to get one of my grandmothers dollies book and try to make one on my own. I will let you know how it turns out? what rope did she use?
Bananas, I would love to know how it goes!!! Jean used cotton rope, not sure the details, but feel free to ask her.
That is so beautiful. I want to make one. Maybe next Spring.
Thanks for sharing.
I had been thinking of similar experiment with smaller rope. I just may have to give this a try.
I could never have thought of doing this. It looks grt.
I love this idea. I would like to try something similar only using heavy twine to make curtain hangings for our windows. Is there any information out there as to how to learn to do this with rope or twine?
It’s in the book – “crafting a meaningful home” I don’t recommend it unless you can afford to buy 300 yards of jumbo 12mm piping cord. it would cost me £209 to buy the cord alone. No thanks!
wow! it’s amazing!
WHERE can I find the pattern/instructions?
Hi Nancy, I’m not sure there is a pattern for this. But you can try contacting the designer by going to her site (link is in the post). I believe there is contact information there.
The link is no longer valid. Would love to know what type of rope she used and an idea of how much. Absolutely STUNNING!
I googled it again and she is on etsy! And had sold one (possibly many, I didn’t look yet) of these rugs. Link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/43532832/handmade-mega-doily-rug
Also, the first link in the entry still goes to her website, and some info is in the SHOP section.
