Crochet Pattern: Double Stranded Oval Placemat

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns on October 27th, 2016 by Rachel Choi – Be the first to comment

This placemat is crocheted with 2 strands of yarn held together, making it quicker to crochet and creating a thicker, sturdier fabric. The double strands are used throughout the pattern, working seamlessly in the round from the center out. The classic oval shape never goes out of style. Crochet a set of these placemats to reuse again and again. Choose a yarn that is machine washable so that you can toss the placemats in the washing machine for easy clean up.

It is designed to be tried on as you crochet so that you can easily adjust the size while crocheting and obtain the prefect fit. Although the pattern contains 8 sizes ranging from U.S. size 2 – 16, you can customize the sweater as you see fit by lengthening the body and sleeves.

If you’re a beginner crocheter, it may be difficult to count your crochet stitches. The ability to count your stitches is extremely important if you want your project to turn out as intended. Counting stitches is a skill often learned with experience. The more you crochet, the more familiar the stitches will become making them easier to recognize and count. In this tutorial, I will show you examples of swatches I crocheted and give you tips on how to count the number of stitches and rows.

Here is the first swatch I crocheted using double crochet stitches. How many stitches do you see on the top row? How many rows do you see? The answer is below the photo.
