Adaptive Crochet For the Legally Blind

Posted in Fun Ramblings, News, Tutorials and Help on March 21st, 2015 by Rachel Choi – 5 Comments

I recently received an email from Sister Margaret Mary, a Crochet Spot reader, who uses an adaptive method for crocheting because she is legally blind. She made a nice video demonstrating the method she uses while crocheting a variety of stitches. After watching the video, I was able to relate to a lot of the tips that she provided, although I am not legally bind. The tips can be use by anyone who crochets, and if you do have trouble seeing your stitches for whatever reason (forgetting your glasses, dim lighting, etc.) then this video is worth checking out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_VkPUK-12M

Crochet Pattern: Classic Tote Bag

Posted in Best Crochet Patterns on February 23rd, 2015 by Rachel Choi – 1 Comment
Crochet a classic tote bag to carry your craft projects, groceries, work gear, or anything else you may need it for. This simple tote is extremely versatile. The tote bag is crocheted seamlessly in the round from the bottom up. The strap is crocheted with a tight stitch and wraps around the bottom of the bag to prevent the strap and the bag from over stretching. For an even sturdier bag, feel free to sew in a liner. You can also add your own closure such as a zipper, button, or snap. crochet classic tote bag

Tired of making socks with tiny single crochet stitches? This second version of the quick socks uses a even taller crochet stitch than the first version. The pattern uses treble/tripe crochet stitches to work up even quicker. No need to worry about the spaces created from taller stitches, each stitch is linked together to create a solid fabric. This sock pattern is crocheted from the toe up to the leg in one piece (no sewing required) so you can try it on as you go. It is extremely adjustable, since it can be crocheted with any weight of yarn for any foot size you can imagine, from babies to adults, women and men, it’s all possible! You can adjust the length of your socks from ankle socks to knee highs. crochet adjustable quick socks v2

Crochet Pattern: Classic Square Coaster

Posted in Free Crochet Patterns on January 31st, 2015 by Rachel Choi – 1 Comment
Here is a coaster pattern that is great for beginners! Instead of a basic square crocheted in rows, this coaster gives you practice crocheting in the round. When crocheted in the round, it allows you to make concentric squares that are noticeable when changing yarn colors! If you need help changing colors, feel free to check out the How to Change Colors in Crochet tutorial. You can vary when you change colors to give each coaster a different look. Crochet a bunch of these coasters to create an entire set. crochet classic square coasters
