Do All Crocheters Have Cats?
By Rachel Choi – 255 Comments| I always thought that the correlation between crocheters and cats was just a myth, until I started to realize that a lot of my crochet friends have cats. Even I have a cat!
Is it just a coincide or do most crocheters have a cat? Maybe cats are just popular to have as a pet. Or perhaps, crocheters are more fond of a cat companion since they both like yarn. |

Let’s have an experiment to find out once and for all if there really is a correlation between cats and crocheters! This is by far, not a real scientific experiment, but will sure be fun to take part in.
So the question is, are you a crocheter? And do you have a cat? Leave a comment to share!

Not all crocheters own cats!! I have 2 yorkies who love to play with my balls of yarn just like a cat!! LOL
They are enough for me!!!
I have always had cats; currently 2 cats and 2 dogs (all rescues). My cat Chuck has been with me for 13 years and always has to sit on whatever crochet project I have going (he has an afghan of his own)…
No cats. Instead I have to fight my 150lb 14 month old Saint Bernard for my yarn.
I actually have 2 cats, but also 2 dogs. Those 4 are the loves of my life and they always sniff all my crochet creations. 🙂
I’m a crocheter and have a cat, Gregory. I also quilt and it seems like a lot of quilters also have cats.
I crochet and have 2 cats, one sits on my lap while I crochet and likes to bite the yarn and hook, the other cat is not sociable so she doesn’t bother my work.
I do crochet and I have dogs. A ten pound chihuahua and a tank of a bulldog. Both rescued. I do love cats too though. 🙂

Nope! Dogs only in this household I’m afraid – used to have cats but they would end up as lunch with my two big fellers and small but feisty girl-hound.
No cats, but I have two black pugs that love to cuddle on the couch while I crochet. One will inevitably jump down with my yarn caught in his curly tail and unravel my project or skein before I can catch the little pugger-bugger!
I have one sweet calico cat and a pug, cocker and golden retriever.
Maybe crochet people are just good people of nature??

I crochet, and occasionally knit, and have two cats. One of whom is in my lap, demanding that I STOP typing and pet her!
Neither bother my yarns, except fun fur. I have very little of it, and have found that to leave it accessable, is to tell it goodby~

I have one 4 y/o tiny…3 lb. cat named Ellie who, fortunately, doesn’t really like to play with the yarn…even if I make something for her.
I have two cats and three dogs..but…its the 4 lb chihuahua that is always on my lap (right at this very moment) and the cats just think the dogs are gross so they stay away from me pretty much. They are more my daughters babies. They will however annoy me while I am am crocheting if the dog happens to be off somewhere.
no cats here, despite the desires of my children… I’m allergic to them, but more allergic to the grass in my front yard. 🙂
I have a 16 lb. Black cat, Maizy. She doesn’t bother with my yarn but sometimes she will lay on the arm of my chair while I crochet and try to get my attention.
Yes!!! I have five cats. I love cats and I love to crochet. I am known as the cat lady. I would have more if I could but alas it is not going to happen. My cats love to distract me by playing with my yarn that I am crocheting with.
I have 2 dogs and about 10 fish…no cats…but I did have a possum staring in my front door this a.m. and mistook it for a cat at 1st.
yes, i have 1 cat named kitty, she’s 8ish. i also have a dog named jurge, we had a pair of keets, birdee and parakeet :(. when jurge and i went to the shelter to pick out a cat, kitty actually picked us…a good story :). kitty enjoys yarn every once in a while…but if i leave it unattended she will get in to it.
Yes I crochet and I have 3 cats and 3 dogs but I must say that the cats love it when I crochet. They want to play with the yarn and if I am making anything big they will lay on it.

I have dogs, both rescues from the local shelter named Zoë and Sarah. Little Zoë is a beagle mix and stands about 12inches at the shoulder and only weighs about 13lbs! My Sarah is a terrier-American Pitbull mix and she’s 30inches and about 30lbs of solid muscle! Both are little scoundrels though and love chasing the rabbits and birds in the back yard. I couldn’t imagine better pets to keep me company as I plow through the yarn I’ve acquired over the winter. =D
Funny! I never thought of that before, although it’s hard to pet kitty and crochet at the same time. I have two cats and I love to crochet very much

I noticed that most crocheters own cats and enjoy working with their cats around or perhaps it is the other way round.
I crochet and knit. I also have cats. We have two cats who love my yarn. We are also “kitty sitting” our son and dil’s three cats as they are in Iraq. Five cats and a 6 year old (our granddaughter) loads of fun.

I’ve loved crocheting my whole life. I didn’t get a cat until college. I actually grew up with dogs and still have a lab. It’s funny, I have to watch my yarn around both of them.
