When sewing elastic to fabric, many of us have probably come across instructions that tell us to mark the fabric and stretched elastic, and sew the two together while the elastic is stretched out. It’s a pain, and with crochet fabrics, it may not even be necessary. With thin elastic and the anatomy of your crochet stitches, you can put in some stretch in a way that’s similar to drawing elastic through a casing.

There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! Meet Peter and Patty the cute pilgrim couple! This pattern set is for both man and woman pilgrim, great for both boys and girls to play with this Thanksgiving. Even if there aren’t kids around to play with these toys, you can always use them to decorate the house. Each pilgrim is crocheted in the round in multiple pieces that are then sewn together.

The Tooth Fairy has a tough job flying to so many houses to collect baby teeth. Make it a little easier by putting the tooth in one of these pillows with a handy pocket. The trapezoidal tooth shape lets the fairy know just where you put it, and the pocket allows for easy access.

I have a toddler in the house and that means that bath time is synonymous with play time! So I made this little goldfish for her to swim away with. I used old fashion cotton worsted weight yarn for super absorbency. Plus, it will lather up perfectly with her favorite bubble bath. This pattern could easily be adjusted to be a soap saver too! New baby on the way? Are you looking for a shower gift? These little fish are so fast to make, why not whip up a couple and give with a set of bath towels. The new mom will appreciate their playful usefulness! |

There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! A capelet is a fun accessory to wear with everyday outfits. This capelet pattern is made with broomstick lace to create a lacy, airy fabric. The capelet is crocheted from the top down in the round. Feel free to make the capelet as short or as long as desired. You can even make it into a full length poncho!

Double treble (dtr) stitches add a lot of height and are very airy, making them great for lace and openwork projects.
The basic instructions for a dtr are: yo (yarn over) 3 times, insert hook into the desired st, yo, pull up a loop, (yo, pull through two loops) 4 times.

Fall to me is beautiful leaves, the smell of wood smoke, apples fresh from the orchard, pumpkin pie and a handful of candy corn. Growing up I could not wait until the stores started carrying this delicious seasonal treat. So when my mom came to visit this week we made a candy corn pocket, which has a million uses! It’s perfect for holding your cell phone, dollars and small necessities! Children love this project. Make up a few for your favorite little friends and fill them with the real deal: candy corn! Perfect for fall bazaars and harvest festivities too. |

Well the craft room is organized and my excitement sparked about what I can do with all the new found (well re-found) yarns, threads and what-not. I do want to try my hand at adding crochet to fabric to jazz up clothes and things. It should be simple enough in most cases. I think I will start by making some lacy edges for a plain top or 2 and see how that goes. I have some knee length pants that I wouldn’t mind jazzing up a bit. I thought I might undo the side seam and crochet a narrow panel as an insert. I will have to think about that one for a bit.

Halloween is creeping up, and it’s time to decorate. Skeletons and skulls are popular seasonal symbols, and they are everywhere. What’s more fun than making your own to add to the mix? This skull motif is versatile and can be used as an applique, an accessory, or anything you need to add a spooky touch to your outfits or decorations.
