Crochet 1-2-3! 3 Great Patterns to Get a Kid Crocheting

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – February 25th, 2014 Be the first to comment

The inspiration for this post came from the wonderful comments in one of my previous posts, Crochet is Child’s Play. I loved hearing everyone’s stories about learning crochet and then passing it on. One Crochet Spotter, Pearl, mentioned that she was trying to teach her six-year-old brother and asked for advice. Before long, Marcia G (a fellow Crochet Spotter) directed Pearl to Rachel’s “How to Crochet” instructions. Hooray! This is EXACTLY what the Crochet Spot community is about!

Crochet Pattern: Winter Wonderland Capelet

By Amy Yarbrough – February 23rd, 2014 Be the first to comment
With just the right amount of drape and a touch of fur, you’ll fit right in on the frozen pond wearing this capelet about your shoulders. The pattern is crocheted with an interesting shell pattern that’s worked from the top down. It is designed so that one size will fit most adults and teens. You can choose to make your own pom poms or buy them from a craft store. Whether you like them big or small, the pom poms are a delightful part of the pattern! Winter Wonderland Capelet

Crochet Pattern: Made with Love Earrings

By Laurie Beranek – February 22nd, 2014 Be the first to comment
In addition to teaching crochet classes, I teach jewelry classes. I love teaching both, so I decided to incorporate both into my design. Show someone you love them with this quick and easy pattern. It only takes a few yards of yarn and you can make it with any color or type of yarn. Not into earrings? It would also make a great pin, just sew or glue on a pin back. I love the “made with love” charm, but you can leave off the charm or add a different charm that has special meaning to you or the recipient. Made With Love Earrings

How to Crochet: Return Pass Tunisian Decrease

By Candace – February 20th, 2014 2 Comments

Decreasing on the forward pass of a Tunisian crochet row is not always feasible, especially when working with stitches that are not worked in the vertical bar. Luckily, working a decrease on the return pass is fairly easy to do.

Decreases in Tunisian crochet can be worked on either the forward pass or the return pass. The forward pass decrease is easy to do, but is best suited for the Tunisian Simple stitch or other stitches that are worked in the vertical bar. This tutorial shows a forward pass decrease worked in Tunisian simple stitch.

How to Crochet: Finishing off Tunisian Crochet

By Candace – February 18th, 2014 Be the first to comment

Finishing off a Tunisian crochet project is a simple and painless process that uses a skill you probably already know– the slip stitch. If you happen to also be a knitter, the process should feel familiar.

You can hover your cursor over the pictures for a left-handed view

Insert your hook into the first stitch. If finishing off in pattern, insert the hook as if working a tss, tks, or whichever stitch the pattern calls for. (In this case, I’m using tks)

Crochet Pattern: Tunisian Checkerboard Neckwarmer

By Candace – February 16th, 2014 Be the first to comment
Several checkerboard panels make this a fun project, and this Tunisian crochet neckwarmer is worked flat with a single seam, so there is no need for a double-ended hook. The stitches used make it a good project for those just branching out into Tunisian crochet who want a little variety. For a more pronounced checkerboard effect, feel free to change colors. crochet tunisian checkerboard neckwarmer

Crochet Sport?

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – February 15th, 2014 7 Comments

Hey, Crochet Spotters! Are you Crochet Sporters, too? 😀

With both the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics dominating the U.S. media recently, I got to thinking about what a fine combination sports and crochet are. How many of you were playing with yarn and hook during the Superbowl & Olympic Opening Ceremonies? I most certainly was yarn crafting (and tweeting) the whole way through!

As I’m sure most of you know, joining crochet with sport is nothing new! I thought it would be fun to list out a few ways (both formal and informal) that we can enjoy various sporting events while weilding hooks!

Crochet Pattern: Tiffany’s Necklace

By Laurie Beranek – February 12th, 2014 4 Comments
This necklace was inspired by my niece Tiffany. She made a chain scarf that came out really cute. I don’t wear scarfs much since I live in Arizona and it’s just to0 warm to wear scarves except for a month or two in the winter. So, I decided to make a chain necklace in lieu of a scarf. I added the button to hide the knot and for some sparkle. You can make the necklace longer or shorter or make it into a scarf by changing the number of chains. It is a wonderful way to use up your stash of yarn. It’s so quick and easy to make that you can make one to match all your outfits or to give as gifts. Tiffany Necklace
