Use Up Your Leftover Yarn! 10 Patterns Perfect for Partial Skeins

Posted in Fun Ramblings on October 27th, 2015 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 2 Comments

I know I can’t be the only one out here with multiple partial skeins of yarn left over. By partial skeins, I mean skeins or balls of yarn from which you’ve only used a few yards, like maybe 50 yards or less. They are left over after a project. Partial skeins can be a bit of a conundrum, because it’s too much yarn to throw away, but it might leave you stumped about what to do with it! Since I need to solve this problem for myself, I decided to put together a round up of patterns that we all could use to make the most of the yarn we have.

Yarns for You Yarn Review: Aesir by A Hundred Ravens Yarn

Posted in Fun Ramblings on October 20th, 2015 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – Be the first to comment

Today’s Yarns for You selection is a very special, indie-dyed confection, Aesir by A Hundred Ravens. A Hundred Ravens is an independent yarn company that I learned about when I visited Stitches Midwest in August. I was drawn into their booth because of the gorgeous array of bold colors and interesting combinations. I purchased the skein I’m reviewing today. It was a splurge, but I’m happy I did it!

Converting UK & Australian to US Crochet Terms

Posted in Fun Ramblings, Tutorials and Help on October 14th, 2015 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 3 Comments

Did you know that while crochet is found all over the world, the names and abbreviations we use for the crochet patterns are different, even in other English-speaking countries? It can be very confusing to come across a great crochet pattern, look it over, and realize that the stitches in the pattern do not appear to match the picture! Luckily, it’s pretty easy to read a foreign crochet pattern in English, and I’ve even created a downloadable chart for you to keep on hand in case you need it.

I should mention here that our Australian Crochet Spotters must be doing these "translations" all the time!

Crochet & Cats Pattern Round-Up

Posted in Fun Ramblings on September 15th, 2015 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 2 Comments

Last week we explored the Crochet & Cats phenomenon. This week it’s time to crochet in honor of and for our furry friends!

Cats are usually afraid of water, but the Cat Scrubbie will actually help you do dishes. Kind of. Help your child play dress up or express your catty side with the Child’s Cat Ear Headband.Your cat can play with any of these fun (& funny) cat toys! Crochet a lot with the 5 Quick Cat Toys pattern. Alternately, you could try the Miss Mouse Cat Toy. If your crochet skills are lacking, try the April Fools Cat Toy. (It’s really easy!) After playing, your sweetheart needs a cozy place to rest, so why not crochet the Super Versatile Cat Bed? I think it would look great in a multicolored yarn.

So what about you, my friends? Do think your cat would like these patterns? Are you going to try one? Please leave your thoughts, ideas and questions in the comment section below.

Crochet & Cats: It’s a Thing

Posted in Fun Ramblings on September 8th, 2015 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 19 Comments

I don’t know what made me think of it, but last week I decided to look up “cats” here on Crochet Spot. With a number of results displaying on Crochet Spot, I was inspired to go a little further and do just a bit more research. While in 2010 Rachel wondered, ‘Do All Crocheters Have Cats?‘ and got a whopping 253 comments and 135 facebook likes, today’s Google search retrieves over 2.2 million results for “crochet & cats”!

6 Fun Crochet Patterns for the Sukkah

Posted in Fun Ramblings on August 25th, 2015 by Caissa "Cami" McClinton – 3 Comments

Have you ever heard of Sukkot? Like Hanukkah, it is a Jewish Festival that lasts about a week. Unlike Hanukkah, it takes place during the autumn season. It is a time to give thanks for the fall harvest. During this time, people who observe this festival build sukkahs, which are temporary shelters meant to symbolize the shelters used by Jews during the 40 years of wandering.

During the festival, people spend time in the sukkah, eating there, having guests, and sometimes even sleeping there. Decorating the sukkah can be a fun activity for the whole family. Since Sukkot begins on September 27, 2015 and ends on October 4th this year, there is plenty of time to crochet one of these projects for your sukkah or to share these project with friends who may celebrate the holiday.
