Crochet Pattern: Mesh Overskirt (Girl Sizes 5 – 12)

By Candace – March 17th, 2013 Be the first to comment
There’s a new pattern in the Crochet Spot Store! Layering pieces, such as this overskirt, are great for extending the wardrobe. Make it for your favorite tween girl to jazz up a boring skirt or a tunic and leggings. In the summer, it also makes a good coverup for a swimsuit. The skirt is crocheted in one piece from the waist down. The skirt uses an elastic cord at the waist, but you can use a drawstring instead if desired. This is best made with natural fibers, such as wool or cotton, that will allow it to drape yet can be blocked to keep its shape. crochet mesh overskirt

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. If you’d like to add a touch of emerald green to your wardrobe then crochet this quick and easy headband. The shamrock appliqué adds the perfect finishing touch to any emerald isle inspired outfit you might throw on for the holiday. This pattern is also great for children’s clothing or hair accessories. Don’t limit yourself to just the headband, you could make hairpins too. Simply crochet the shamrock, sew on the button and then hot glue the appliqué to a bobby pin or hair barrette.

March is National Crochet Month! (And Other Crochet Holidays)

By Caissa "Cami" McClinton – March 13th, 2013 Be the first to comment

Yes, you heard correctly, my friends. In addition to being National Craft Month, and “coming in like a lion but going out like a lamb,” the third month of the year is annually dedicated to our favorite craft, crochet. In honor of this, I encourage you to share Crochet Spot with someone who might be interested. Tell your crafting friends to check us out and join the fun! And since it’s also National Caffeine Awareness Month, why not work on your crochet together at a local cafe? (Bring one of these to help reduce waste.) Crochet and caffeine go great together, but herbal tea works just as well! (I should know!)

Here is a list of other holidays and observances happening this month, along with suggestions on how to celebrate!

Crochet Pattern: Lacy Sun Applique

By Candace – March 12th, 2013 4 Comments
What helps lace flowers grow? The lace sun, of course. This embellishment will look great on your spring and summer projects and bring a little brightness and cheer. The lace pattern is fairly simple and good practice for crocheters ready to branch off into finer work. crochet_lacey_sun_applique

Crochet Pattern: Teddy Bear Applique

By Emilee Gettle – March 6th, 2013 2 Comments
Each week my five year old daughter watches me create a project for Crochet Spot. Oftentimes she is the source of my inspiration. For a couple weeks now she has been begging me to crochet a teddy bear for her. Any kind of teddy bear was her request. So, this week I made this appliqué to add to one of her shirts. She has already put in another request for a pink one next time. This pattern is really easy and can be adjusted several ways. You can change the muzzle color to a slightly darker or lighter shade, add beads or french knots for the eyes. Have fun! You can also find more applique patterns in the Applique Section!
